Was Abraham Lincoln Gay?

Abraham Lincoln is best known for winning the civil war, freeing slaves, being on pennies and five dollar bills, and he knows a thing or two about civil war battle history as well. Needless to say he was well versed in things like the Battle of Gettysburg and would be able to give anyone a summary of the Battle of Antietam. In recent years Lincoln has even been cast as a vampire killer in a series of novels. The thing most people don't know about the tall lanky man with the funny hat is that his sexuality has been a topic of debate and at the very least something gossipped about for over a century.

So, the question is, was Abraham Lincoln gay? Lincoln's sexual orientation has been a topic widely discussed because of rumors of things that can't be proven. There is a poem that is open to interpretation that has raised eyebrows. There's also a somewhat common figure of speech used by Abraham, actually a few of them that brought up questions. However, with no hard proof most people have to conclude that the fact that he dated a few women, got married and had children means that he's straight. It's pretty much impossible at this point to prove otherwise, unless some hidden secret papers were revealed but that sounds like a story out of a Dan Brown book or maybe even a National Treasure movie.

The girl he married was named Mary Todd and that lasted from 1842 until he died in 1865. They had four kids. One son named Gary had stated that the president's weird and bad relationships with women were the opposite to his relationships to several close men that he had in his life. Lincoln's son even said that those relationships Lincoln had with his male friends bordered on homosexual behavior but as the president's son he didn't have any actual proof. People who have since written biographies about Lincoln have noticed some of these same signs, while others are very confident that there is no evidence to support these statements. The people who back Lincoln being a straight man might actually be even subconsciously motivated by their own esteem for the man. A lot of people who are so into Lincoln (Lincoln was a Republican) that they devote years of their lives researching and writing about the man, typically don't want to turn up information that conflicts with their beliefs. This is just one theory to keep in mind. Another train of thought says, that these experts did the actual research so they do in fact know better than anyone else.

If you're curious and want to learn more about this then I suggest doing some searching on the internet to find more amusing information about President Abraham Lincoln's sexuality that you probably didn't know. Do your due diligence and make up your own mind.

The author is a big fan of civil war battle history and it was while reading a summary of the Battle of Antietam that he came across this information about Abraham Lincoln.
