Here they are... and if you've had any online dating experience yourself, I think you'll agree, these are all 100% true!

Most common MALE Fib:

Height! According to women who met over 600 men and compared the profile with the actual reality, men tended to add about 1.5 inches to their height when filling out an online profile. While the average height for most men on dating sites is about 5'11, and in real life... the average height is about 5'9, it's no surprise when you do the math that's something is off.

The sort of funny but well thought out excuse most men made about this vertical white lie? That their dates wouldn't be able to tell their true height... simply because they could wear higher heeled shoes on the date until she noticed the truth.

Most common FEMALE fib:

Weight! I know, I know... many of you aren't going to like hearing it, but women traditionally described themselves as "thin" or "athletic" under the build section, when in reality, many were described by their dates as having a bit of a different body than described!

Most likely to lie about appearance overall?

Men! Many men were accused of using pictures that were at last 2 years (and 20 pounds) ago, with almost 7 out of 10 women reporting that their date looked better, and FAR younger online, than he did in person. Interestingly, women while women were misleading about self describing their weight, they also tended to be far more honest with pictures than men, and didn't "cherry pick" only their very best pics to post.

The bottom line?

Have fun! Don't over think it, worry too much or sweat it if your date doesn't arrive, exactly as described! Lots of people do the very same things... and at the end of the day, the good news is, MOST of us simply want to meet someone to love and laugh at all of this with!
